The purpose of the study was to critically examine the Vancouver Pretrial Services Centre and the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Victoria. The results were to be used to modify the design and operations of proposed correctional facilities. We coordinated contributions from a group of government personnel and consultants. We toured the facilities, reviewed 14 working papers, examined background material, and met with the study group to discuss key issues. Our final report consisted of 42 recommendations organized into general design considerations, circulation space, security, area allocations, food services, computer and communications systems, staffing organization and training, and the facilities delivery process. Completed in 1985.
