Textbook Distribution Centre, Edmonton, Alberta - 1985

Client:
Building type: ,

The School Book Branch of Alberta Education purchases and distributes textbooks and related material to students and teachers in schools throughout Alberta. The facility is divided into warehouse (where textbooks are received, processed, stored, and shipped) and administration components (including a direct-sales outlet). We established operational concepts and an initial estimate of facility needs. Research included a site visit to a similar centre in Winnipeg. We refined the initial estimates and developed detailed building requirements. The Facilities Program documented the requirements for an estimated 6700 square metres. Completed in 1985.

Alberta Correspondence School, Barrhead, Alberta - 1981

Client:
Building type: ,

ACS provides courses for students unable to attend regular classes of Grades 1 to 12. We specified the requirements for a new building organized into Teaching, Administrative and Support Components, and included a printing shop to produce instructional material. For this project, we developed a two-step approach. Step 1 established basic operational concepts and an initial estimate of facility needs for ACS. Step 2 refined the initial estimates and developed the detailed requirements for the 6300 square metre facility. Later, we revised the original Facilities Program, based on the impact of relocating from Edmonton to Barrhead as well as internal management changes. In addition, we worked with the architect to develop the design concept. Completed in 1981.

Alberta Vocational Centre, Lac La Biche, Alberta - 1980

Building type: , ,

Alberta Vocational Centre is a post-secondary educational institution providing pre-employment training in Northeast Alberta. We planned a new campus for 500 students with housing for 150 students and an early childhood training centre for 100 children. Our services included the definition of an educational plan, demand projections as well as specification of facilities requirements. We tested the existing site to accommodate expansion to a 1000-tudent capacity. The educational facilities included instructional, workshop, administration, stores, student services, recreation, and food service components. The planned facilities totaled 25 000 square metres. Completed in 1980.
