Alberta Transportation Headquarters, Edmonton, Alberta - 1980
Client: Alberta Transportation
Building type: Offices
Alberta Transportation is responsible for the planning, design, and management of the provincial transportation network. The primary purpose of our initial study was to define the office accommodation needs of Headquarters comprising approximately 1100 staff. A secondary focus was to determine whether Alberta Transportation should remain within its existing facilities. A third project objective was to test the accuracy of the standard formula for allocating general-purpose office space. The study concluded that the Headquarters required a total floor area of over 18 000 square metres. After a decision was made to accommodate the Headquarters in a built-to-lease development, we prepared a Facilities Program that specified the requirements for leased accommodation and incorporated many anticipated changes to Alberta Transportation’s organization. We also produced site development guidelines and locational criteria. Completed in 1980.
