Building type:

We worked with the BC Buildings Corporation and Ministry representatives to develop revised Government Office Space Standards in line with Treasury Board directives. The primary objective was to match personnel to workstations based on functional requirements, rather than job titles. Our work included the development of a written survey to be completed by 3000 representative government employees located in the offices across the Province of various Ministries. Plans were also made for a series of Province-wide small group worksessions to focus on specific areas of concern, including workspace size and furnishings. Completed in 1998.

We were part of a team analyzing ways to reduce the construction cost of courthouses. Our contribution focused on five areas: comparing area allocations to government standards for office space; comparing area allocations with earlier standards for court facilities; identifying possible cost reductions due to changes in space programs for courthouses; identifying possible cost reductions related to changes in planning principles and key operational premises; presenting alternatives for estimating circulation and other non-assigned areas. Later, we helped analyze the designed areas of the Port Coquitlam Courthouse, one of the four courthouses studied. Completed in 1994.
