Lindsay Park Athletic Centre, Calgary, Alberta - 1980
Client: City of Calgary
Building type: Culture/Recreation
This competition pool and field house was intended primarily to meet the needs of the elite athlete, partly in anticipation of the Western Canada Games. Aquatic activities included competitive swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and recreational aquatics; while the field house included sports such as volleyball, basketball and badminton as well as track and field training. We assisted in setting the scope and budget for the Centre by exploring alternative facility models for the aquatic component. Subsequently, we worked with representatives of the sports community to determine facilities requirements within a strict cost ceiling. In addition, we contributed to the design development for the award-winning facility. An estimated cost of $24.7 million was required to construct the 12 000 square metres facility. Completed in 1980.
