School District 37 (Delta) Projects

Long-Range Facilities Plan, Delta School District, BC - 2001

Client:
Building type:

The Delta School District has 34 schools and about 18,000 students. Future enrolments could remain relatively constant, although either a modest decline or a small increase in student numbers is possible. We were asked to clarify possible future enrolment scenarios, including the geographic and age distribution of students. We also examined how to move the schools to a consistent grade configuration. Another set of objectives was to improve the quality of facilities, reduce the cost to operate schools, and reduce the number of portables. Our long-range plan provided a strategic framework for future decisions regarding replacement and upgrading school facilities. Completed in 2001.

South Delta Senior Secondary School, BC - 1992

Building type:

South Delta Senior Secondary (SDSS) required upgrading or replacement. In addition, it was proposed that SDSS be amalgamated with Tsawwassen Junior Secondary to provide a more cost-effective operation. We defined the most appropriate strategy for accommodating the amalgamated secondary school taking into consideration the future role of the school within the District; the technical capacity of the existing school facilities; and the potential of the facilities for modification. We worked closely with the teaching staff and administrators to define facilities needs appropriate for the future and prepared alternative redevelopment options for the facility. Completed in 1992.
