Building type:

We studied the viability of purchasing an existing school to help meet anticipated demand. To achieve this objective, we conducted a technical assessment of the existing Marion High School; reviewed alternative approaches to accommodating anticipated growth in elementary school enrolment in the Armstrong Elementary and Second Street Elementary catchment areas; and defined a development plan for accommodating future growth within the catchment area for the Cariboo Secondary School. Completed in 1993.

Marian High School Assessment, Burnaby, BC - 1992

Client:
Building type:

School District 41 anticipated substantial increases in school enrolments in northeast Burnaby. At the same time, the Vancouver Archdiocese was actively seeking to dispose of an existing surplus facility, the Marian High School. The District approached us to assist in assessing the need for an additional area elementary school and comparing the estimated cost to renovate Marian High School to the construction of a new school. Key tasks carried out included: assessment of population trends and community context; formulation of area enrolment projections; technical assessment of Marian High School in coordination with architectural and engineering subconsultants; development of enrolment projections; and establishment of potential facilities development options, including acquisition of Marian High School, together with estimates of capital costs to implement the options. Completed in 1992.
