The Health Sciences Centre is an 850-bed tertiary care hospital with a major role in both education and research. It is associated with the University of Alberta. We were engaged to develop detailed programs for the approximately 60 components of Phases 1 and 2, including specialty inpatient units, major clinic areas, research specialties, medical records, major teaching spaces, medical library, and support/technical functions. We obtained information and approvals from user representatives for all Departments. The Facilities Programs for each component included role descriptions, activities analysis, accommodation schedule, spatial relationships, and detailed room-by-room requirements. The total construction estimate for the Health Sciences Centre was $251 million. Completed in 1982.
