Vancouver General Hospital, BC - 1978
Client: Vancouver General Hospital
Building type: Health, Industry/Research
VGH provides primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health care as well as educational and research services, to the Vancouver region. At the time of this study, VGH was being planned for an eventual complement of 970 acute care beds. We prepared a development plan for major additions and renovations by producing a set of programs that focused on the size, location, and major physical requirements of each component. Once all the requirements and constraints were established, we conducted a series of gaming sessions where user representatives addressed the optimal location of components. From insights obtained at these sessions, we prepared the final development plan. The total capital budget was set at $62.7 million. Completed in 1978.
