Yukon College, Whitehorse, Yukon - 1984
Client: Yukon College
Building type: Housing, Post-Secondary Education
We conducted several studies for Yukon College. First, we prepared an interim accommodation plan involving the use of portables on a site near the main campus, after examining several alternatives, including renovations and leasing. Next, our long-term needs assessment was based on four possible population scenarios (recognizing uncertain economic factors) and three possible participation rates for each program. A new campus was chosen as the only practical development option, since refitting the existing facilities was not cost-effective (based on a technical and functional evaluation) and the existing site was too small to accommodate future needs. After project approval was received, we assisted two of the architectural firms participating in the design competition. Our analysis indicated that the College would require a total floor area of approximately 23 400 square metres. Completed in 1984.
