Preliminary Courts Accommodation Model, Ontario - 2018

We developed a Preliminary Courts Accommodation Model to be further refined by our client. The Courts Accommodation Model (CAM) is a master space program for courthouses that links personnel estimates and corresponding space requirements to court time forecasts at a selected planning horizon. The formulae incorporated in CAM are evidence-based and policy-driven. CAM is scaleable and responds to the specific case mix in individual communities. Completed in 2018.

Knowledge Transfer, Courts Planning, Ontario - 2017

The purpose of this project was to transfer the knowledge we had gained about planning courthouses in Ontario, including the use of the Courtroom Forecasting Model. We conducted knowledge transfer conferences for the Facilities Management Branch as well as the divisional partners. We also briefed senior management. We trained staff on the use of the Courtroom Forecasting Model. We provided advice on the development of Regional Asset Management Plans. Completed in 2017.

Ontario Courtroom Forecasting Model, 2015 Update - 2016

We refined and updated a method for forecasting the long-range demand for judicial hearing rooms (courtrooms and judicial conference rooms). Part of our work focused on determining how well the model predicted courtroom utilization over the past few years. We also refined the courtroom utilization rate in the context of our client’s objective to improve the effective use of courtrooms. Completed in 2016.

Program Ratios for Courthouses in Ontario - 2016

With the twin goals of improving consistency between capital projects as well as reducing total area requirements, we began work to define appropriate and consistent ratios of staff and space to the number of courtrooms in courthouses. We discontinued the project when new organization units within the ministry were formed to address similar topics. Completed in 2016.
